Eastern Chatino is one of three Chatino languages. Although it is one language, each Eastern Chatino village speaks somewhat differently. This has led to a profusion of names for the language as spoken in different regions, some of which are associated with International Standard Organization (ISO 639-3) three letter codes, including: Nopala Chatino (cya), Western Highland Chatino (ctp), Eastern Highland Chatino (cly), and Zacatepec Chatino (cta). Eastern Chatino is also sometimes known by local municipality names, among others: Panixtlahuaca Chatino, San Juan Quiahije Chatino, San Juan Lachao Chatino, Juquila Chatino, Santa María Yolotepec Chatino, and others.  The two names that are NOT included within Eastern Chatino are those of the other two Chatino languages: Tataltepec Chatino (cta) and Zenzontepec Chatino (czn). Those two languages are NOT mutually intelligible with Eastern Chatino.

El chatino del este es uno de los tres idiomas chatinos. Aunque es un idioma, cada pueblo del chatino del este tiene su propia variante. Esto ha llevado a una profusión para nombrar el idioma que se habla en diferentes regiones, algunos de los cuales están asociados con códigos de tres letras de la Organización Internacional de Normalización (ISO 639-3), que incluyen: chatino de Nopala (cya), el chatino del altiplano occidental (ctp) , chatino del altiplano oriental (cly) y el chatino de Zacatepec (cta). El Chatino del este también es conocido a veces por los nombres de los municipios locales, entre otros: chatino de Panixtlahuaca, chatino de San Juan Quiahije, chatino de San Juan Lachao, chatino de Juquila, chatino de Santa María Yolotepec, y otros. Los dos nombres que NO están incluidos dentro del chatino del este, son las otras dos lenguas chatinas: chatino de Tataltepec (cta) y chatino de Zenzontepec (czn). Esos dos idiomas NO son mutuamente inteligibles con el chatino del este.
